The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's basketball team will return home for the first time in nearly a month as they face Northwestern College on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 8) at Snyder Arena.
Saturday's matchup between Nebraska Wesleyan and Northwestern will be a game of contrasting styles. NWU leads the conference in scoring defense, while Northwestern enters the game with the top scoring offense in the GPAC. The Prairie Wolves are 5-7 overall and 1-4 in GPAC play and Northwestern is 13-4 overall, 6-1 in GPAC action.
Last season, NWU upset Northwestern, 80-70, in Orange City, Iowa to end their eight game losing streak to the Red Raiders.
NWU had a heartbreaking 61-59 loss at Midland University on Wednesday night (Jan. 5) in Fremont. After battling back from 13 behind in the second half, the game came down to the final seconds. Midland converted a jump shot, and NWU missed a potential game-tying free throw to give the Warriors the win.
The Prairie Wolves are looking to get the offense on track, as they have yet to score 60 points in a GPAC game.
Northwestern is on top of the GPAC standings after their current eight-game winning streak. The Red Raiders average 85.2 points per game and are the top rebounding team in the GPAC.
Northwestern has already won two games this week defeating two of the top GPAC teams. They beat Concordia, 96-87, on Monday and are coming off a 76-67 win over Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday in Orange City, Iowa.
