Nebraska Wesleyan will open the Great Plains Athletic Conference portion of their schedule this Saturday (Sept. 8) when they hit the road for the first time to face Midland University in GPAC football action. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Warriors is set for Noon at Memorial Field in Fremont, Neb.
NWU is coming off a 25-20 victory over Saint Mary in the 2012 opener last Saturday (Sept. 1) at Abel Stadium. After trailing by a touchdown at halftime, the Prairie Wolves scored 16 unanswered points in the third quarter and held off a late USM rally for the win.
Saturday marks the season opener for Midland as well as the start of a new coaching regime. Josh Gehring will be making his debut as head coach of the Warriors after spending the past two seasons on the offensive coaching staff at NCAA III National Champion Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Warriors have won the last meetings between the two teams after NWU had reeled off six straight. This is the first time the teams have played in Fremont since 2008 when NWU won on the final play of the game.
