Nebraska Wesleyan had three football players named to the 20th Annual USA College Football NAIA Preseason All-American teams. Russell Walton was a First-Team preseason All-American, with Brett Kaczor and Cody Eiler selected for the Second-Team.
Walton (6-0, 255, Sr., Franklin, Neb.) was a First-Team selection on the defensive line. The two-year starter has been named First-Team All-GPAC in each of the past two seasons as a defensive lineman. In 2011, Walton was second in the league with 6.5 quarterback sacks to go along with his 11.0 tackles-for-loss.
Kaczor (5-11, 215, Sr., Ewing, Neb.) was selected Second-Team Preseason All-America at linebacker. He is coming off a season where he was chosen First-Team All-GPAC at linebacker. Kaczor led the conference and was 12th in the NAIA with 100 total tackles during his junior season. He also had four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns.
Eiler (5-11, 195, Sr., O’Neill, Neb.) was chosen to the Second-Team as a return specialist. He had a remarkable season returning kicks ranking in the top 10 of the NAIA in both punt return and kick return average. Eiler had three return touchdowns on the season with two kick returns and one punt return TD. He also started at cornerback in the NWU secondary.
The USA Football News NAIA Preseason All-America teams were selected by coaches, sports information directors, certified players’ agents, pro scouts, media and staff of USA Football News.
Nebraska Wesleyan posted a 5-5 overall record during the 2011 season. The Prairie Wolves return 10 starters and 34 letter winners from last year’s squad.
NWU players report to fall camp on Aug. 12 and begin practice on Aug. 13th. The Prairie Wolves will open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 when they host the University of Saint Mary. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Spires is set for 1 p.m. at Abel Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.
