October 12, 2009

Nebraska Wesleyan running back Kory Kahlandt is this week's GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Kahlandt, a senior from Lincoln, Neb., rushed for a GPAC and NWU single game record five touchdowns in the Prairie Wolves 45-14 win at Dana last Saturday.Kory Kahlandt set a NWU record with 5 Rushing TDs

Kahlandt tied the league single game rushing touchdown record that was also set by Northwestern's Keith Sietstra (2005, 2006 vs. Doane).  He broke the previous NWU single game record that was held by Cody Hoegh (2005 vs. Midland Lutheran).

The Lincoln Pius X graduate finished the game with 109 yards on 17 carries.  He did all of his work in the first half as he only had one carry in the second half with reserves getting the majority of carries.

Kahlandt, who ranks 7th in the NAIA in rushing, moved up to second on the NWU single season rushing TD all-time list with 11, and into a tie for 5th on the career rushing TD list with 17.  He also moved up to 7th on the career rushing charts with 1,649 yards.

NWU (3-2, 3-2 GPAC) returns home this Saturday (Oct. 17) to face 22nd-ranked Hastings College (5-2, 4-2 GPAC) in a key league game.  The Prairie Wolves will also honor the 1989 NIAC Championship and NAIA Playoff team at halftime of Saturday's contest.
