Four NWU Players Earn 1st-Team All-GPAC In Football

The 2011 Great Plains Athletic Conference Football All-Conference team has been selected after a vote of the league coaches on Sunday (Nov. 13) at Midland University in Fremont, Neb. A total of 15 Nebraska Wesleyan University players received recognition from the GPAC.

Garek BebeeFour NWU players were named to the All-GPAC First-Team. On offense, senior offensive lineman Garek Bebee and senior tight end Matt Edwards were first-team, while junior defensive lineman Russell Walton and junior linebacker Brett Kaczor were first-team on defense.

Bebee (Wakefield, Neb.) earns First-Team honors for the second time in his career after earning All-GPAC First-Team in 2009. Bebee, who missed the entire 2010 season with injury, started all 40 games of his career on the offensive line and was a two-year offensive team captain. He also was honorable mention All-GPAC in 2008.

Matt EdwardsEdwards (Gretna, Neb.) was the Prairie Wolves leading receiver with 30 catches for 399 yards and two touchdowns. He led all GPAC tight ends in catches and was 11th overall in the league in receptions. He was honorable mention All-GPAC in 2010.

Walton (Franklin, Neb.) is a repeat First-Team All-GPAC performer on the defensive line. He finished the season with 71 total tackles to rank 14th in the GPAC in tackles. Walton had 11.0 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks to tie for fourth in Russell Waltonthe GPAC in QB sacks. He also had an interception and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

Kaczor (Ewing, Neb.) was the leading tackler in the GPAC with 100 total tackles on the season. He also had four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, and recorded 7.0 tackles-for-loss. He finished the season 12th in all of NAIA in total tackles. Kaczor, who was All-GPAC honorable mention in 2010, had a Brett Kaczorcareer-high 20 tackles in the last game of the year.

Nebraska Wesleyan had three players named Second-Team All-GPAC. Junior Cody Eiler as a punt return specialist, kicker Steven Anderson and punter Kelby Vandenberg.

Eiler (O’Neill, Neb.) had three total returns for touchdowns. He led the GPAC in punt return average at 15.9 yards per return and was second in kick returns at 29.8 yards per return. Anderson (Omaha, Neb.) led the GPAC in field goal percentage converting 10-13 field goals on the year. Vandenberg (David City, Neb.) was second in the GPAC in punting averaging 38.7 yards per punt. He had a long punt of 76 yards, one yard shy of the NWU school record.

The Prairie Wolves had nine players receive honorable mention All-GPAC honors. Jordan Delbaugh, Joe Manley and Sam Rickaby were honorable mention on offense. Trent Friesen, Josh Knight, Tanner Smith, Nate Strehle and Seth Wardyn were selected on defense.

Doane quarterback Anthony Dunn was the GPAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, Morningside defensive back Colby Henderson was the GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year while Steve Ryan from Morningside was named GPAC Coach of the Year.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the season with a 5-5 overall record, 4-5 GPAC record to finish seventh in the GPAC standings.
