Nebraska Wesleyan football players Seth Mruz and Phil Schroer were both selected as 2008 NAIA honorable mention All-Americans by the College Fanz Sports Network when the teams were announced on Jan. 22.
Mruz (Fremont, Neb.) was fifth in the country in kickoff returns averaging 28.1 yards per return. He helped NWU lead all of NAIA in kick return average as a team. The Fremont Bergan H.S. graduate was an All-GPAC First-Team pick as a return specialist, leading the GPAC in kickoff returns. He was the only player to rush for a touchdown, catch a touchdown pass and throw a touchdown pass this year. He finished second on the team in all-purpose yardage averaging 57.2 yards per game.
Schroer (Lawrence, Neb.) was named to the honorable mention All-America Team for the second year in a row. He finished his stellar career as the NWU career leader with 23 interceptions. As a senior he led the team with five interceptions and finished third on the team with 57 total tackles. Schroer was also a First-Team All-GPAC pick for the second year in a row, and earned his third All-Conference honor this season.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the season winning their last seven games to post a 7-3 final record to tie for third in the GPAC standings. This is the third straight season that NWU has at least seven wins in football, marking the best three-year stretch of NWU football since 1989-91.
