Nebraska Wesleyan Tops All Football Schools in Academic All-Americans

December 7, 2012

Nebraska Wesleyan University had five football players named to the First-Team of the 2012 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Football Team. The five CoSIDA/Academic All-Americans were the most among all levels of football playing schools for the 2012 season.

With the five football Academic All-Americans® in 2012, Nebraska Wesleyan moved up to seventh all-time among all levels of football with 44 Academic All-Americans® passing Stanford University. NWU is the highest-ranking non-FBS or FCS football school on the list. The University of Nebraska is first on the list, followed by University of Notre Dame.

It was the second straight season that the Prairie Wolves have produced more Academic All-Americans® than any other school in the country. Under head coach Brian Keller, 28 players have been named Academic All-America® since 1996.

“It is with great pride to see our football program for the second consecutive year lead the nation in the number of Academic All-Americans in football,” said Coach Keller who led NWU to a 6-4 record in 2012. “To have our student-athletes mentioned in the same sentence with the historically great football programs and universities in America is a testament to both their academic and athletic abilities.”

As an institution, Nebraska Wesleyan has produced 133 CoSIDA/Academic All-Americans®, which is now eighth among all levels of colleges and universities. The University of Nebraska is now first with 301.
