Crume Named New NWU Defensive Coordinator

Nebraska Wesleyan University Head Football Coach Brian Keller announced today that Kevin Crume will be the new defensive coordinator for the Prairie Wolves football team.Kevin Crume

“I am very pleased that Kevin has accepted the position of defensive coordinator,” Keller said. “He has been an integral part of our outstanding defensive play the past number of years.”

Crume, a former linebacker at NWU from 1999-2001, has been a member of the Nebraska Wesleyan coaching staff for eight seasons. He has previously served as the linebackers coach and was the NWU special teams coordinator.

“I am excited about the opportunity of becoming the defensive coordinator at Nebraska Wesleyan,” Crume remarked. “I am thankful to Coach Keller for this opportunity and I am also thankful to Coach Bates for helping me prepare for this new responsibility. I hope to build upon the success we have been able to accomplish on defense and we will continue to recruit the right student-athletes for Nebraska Wesleyan.”

During his eight seasons at Nebraska Wesleyan, Crume coached two All-American return specialists and 19 All-Conference linebackers. He has been part of the defensive staff that helped NWU rank in the top ten in the NAIA in scoring defense the past four seasons. In 2008, he coached the NWU kick return unit to lead the entire country in return yards.

“Kevin has been a very loyal and dedicated member of our coaching staff the past eight seasons and is a Prairie Wolf in the truest sense of the word,” Keller concluded.

Crume replaces John Bates who was the NWU defensive coordinator for the past seven seasons. In addition to his duties with the football program, Crume will also serve as the Recruiting Coordinator for the athletic department.

Crume, who attended Bellevue East High School, earned three letters and was the third leading tackler for the Prairie Wolves as a senior in 2001. He graduated from NWU with a degree in Health and Physical Education in 2002. He earned his Master of Arts in management from Doane College in 2008. He and his wife Amanda live in Lincoln.
