Nebraska Wesleyan University sophomore return specialist Cody Eiler is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. He was then named the NAIA National Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.
Eiler (O’Neill, Neb.) had the game-winning 49-yard punt return for a touchdown with 0:27 left in the game to lift the Prairie Wolves over 25th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan, 27-20. He finished the game with three punt returns for 89 yards, with another one of his returns setting up a two-play scoring drive in the third quarter.
The O’Neill St. Mary’s H.S., product also had five total tackles from his cornerback position for the Prairie Wolves. His punt return was the first punt return for a touchdown for NWU since the 2005 season.
On the season, Eiler leads the team in kick returns averaging 29.0 yards per return. He has 25 total tackles with two pass breakups.
Nebraska Wesleyan improved to 2-4 on the season with the victory. They have a bye week this Saturday (Oct. 16) then return to action on Oct. 23, to host Briar Cliff University in the homecoming game.
