Josh Ostrom Wins NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Nebraska Wesleyan now has 43 athletes that have earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships. NWU ranks fifth among all NCAA schools (all divisions) and third among all Division III schools with 23 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients since 2001-02.

Ostrom (Fremont, Neb.) graduated with a 3.80 GPA as an exercise science major. He was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Prairie Wolves and set the school record for games played with 150 in his career. He was Second-Team All-GPAC this season to earn All-GPAC recognition in all four seasons. Ostrom was also a Second-Team CoSIDA Academic All-American this season.

As a senior he played in all 42 games, which tied the NWU single season record, and led the team with 32 RBI. Ostrom also was the top pitcher for NWU with a 2.29 ERA and a 6-4 record. For his career, he has his name in seven different top 10 lists at NWU. He holds the school record for games played (150) and assists (325), ranks tied for second in triples (9), eighth in RBI (106), eighth in innings pitched (173) and fifth in ERA (3.55).

This marks the second time a Nebraska Wesleyan baseball player has earned a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship with the other player being Tyler Peterson in 2001.

Fifty-eight scholarships (29 men and 29 women) were awarded to spring sports participants in all three NCAA divisions.

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must meet minimum GPA requirements and have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which he or she was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
