Van Dyke Earns AD3I Baseball Player of Week Honors

Nebraska Wesleyan sophomore Justin Van Dyke has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) baseball player of the week for games played Apr. 23-29.Justin Van Dyke

Van Dyke (Columbus, Neb.) a sophomore pitcher, threw a complete game three-hit shutout to defeat Midland University on April 25 as Nebraska Wesleyan defeated the Warriors, 3-0, in the second game of a GPAC doubleheader. He struck out five batters and did not allow an extra base hit in the contest.

Van Dyke has now thrown 17 2/3 consecutive innings of scoreless baseball over his last three starts.

The Columbus H.S., led the NWU pitching staff making nine starts on the mound this season. He finished the regular season with a 3-3 record and a 5.85 ERA throwing 52 1/3 innings. Van Dyke led the team with 33 strikeouts.

NWU opens the 2012 GPAC Baseball Postseason Tournament this week (May 3-5) as the Prairie Wolves received the No. 3 seed for the Championships. The Prairie Wolves open the tournament on Thursday morning (May 3) by taking on No. 6 seed Concordia University at 11:30 am at Sherman Field.
