Baseball Extends Win Streak to Six With Sweep of Dordt

Nebraska Wesleyan scored six runs in the first inning of game one and scored 13 unanswered runs in the second game as the Prairie Wolves swept Dordt College in a GPAC baseball doubleheader on Friday night (Apr. 13) in Sioux Center, Iowa. NWU won game one, 16-8, and took the nightcap 13-6.

The Prairie Wolves have now won six straight games to improve to 11-15 overall and 7-3 in the GPAC.

NWU jumped out early in the first game as they scored six in the top of the first inning. Dordt chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the score 6-6 in the fifth inning.

The tie didn't last long as the Prairie Wolves put up eight runs in the top of the sixth inning on four hits, including a two-run double by Josh Ostrom.

Evan Ehmen picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound as he threw 1 2/3 innings of relief.

NWU had 14 hits in the game with four players having multi-hit games. Alex Heideman was 3-4 with a triple and two RBI, Ostrom was 2-4 with four RBI and JJ Thaut and Pete Sitorius each had two hits.

In the second game, Dordt exploded for six runs in the bottom of the first as they grabbed an early 6-0 lead on NWU starter Justin Van Dyke. Van Dyke then settled down and allowed just one hit until the sixth inning with a stretch of five straight strikeouts.

At the plate, NWU got a 3-run home run from JJ Thaut and eventually tied the game then took over the lead in another six run inning.

The Prairie Wolves now turn around and play at Northwestern on Saturday morning at 11 am.
