Nebraska Wesleyan senior Josh Ostrom has been selected as the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) baseball player of the week for games played Mar. 26-Apr. 1.
Ostrom (Fremont, Neb.) a senior shortstop and pitcher, threw a complete game shutout in the Prairie Wolves 5-0 victory over Briar Cliff University in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday (Apr. 1). He struck out five batters and walked none as he scattered six hits over the game’s seven innings. At the plate he helped his own cause as he recorded a pair of RBI.
For the week, Ostrom had six RBI, three hits, a stolen base, two walks and committed zero errors in the field in three games as starting shortstop.
The Fremont H.S., graduate leads the Prairie Wolves in RBI this season with 16 on the season in 19 games. He is batting .263 with a home run, four doubles and two triples. On the mound, Ostrom is among the conference leaders with a 1.96 ERA in four starts. He has thrown two complete games and allowed just five earned runs in 23.0 innings of work.
NWU will complete their eight-game homestand this week with a pair of Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheaders. The Prairie Wolves host Hastings College on Friday (Apr. 6) with first pitch set for 1 p.m., then NWU will turn around on Saturday and host GPAC leader and conference rival Doane College in a doubleheader also starting at 1 p.m.
