Beavers Sweep Past Prairie Wolves

March 17, 2012

Buena Vista had a combined 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Nebraska Wesleyan in NCAA III baseball action on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 17) at NWU Field in Lincoln. BVU won game one, 8-2, then took the second game 19-4.

BVU (6-6) took advantage of every base runner in the opening game as they left just two runners on base. The Beavers scored two runs in the second inning and went up 5-0 with three more in the fourth. NWU (1-7) responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Alex Heideman and Josh Ostrom both had doubles. That would be all the offense that NWU could muster.

Levi Clifton (0-2) took the loss for the Prairie Wolves allowing eight runs, seven earned on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked none.

Jon Ringblom got the complete game victory for BVU allowing six hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Buena Vista dominated game two as they scored at least one run in every inning. The Beavers plated four in the first inning, all unearned as they took advantage of a key two-out error.

NWU did score a run in the bottom of the first as Alex Heideman singled and scored on a single by Matt Honerman.

BVU got another unearned run in the top of the second then began to roll.

Prairie Wolves starter Josh Ostrom went 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs, but only two were earned. The NWU bullpen then allowed 12 runs. Heideman, Honerman and Justin Van Dyke were all 2-4 at the plate for NWU.

The two teams will meet again for one 9-inning game on Sunday.
