Big Week Earns Hilgenkamp Player of Week Honors

Nebraska Wesleyan junior third baseman/pitcher Cory Hilgenkamp had one of the best week’s a player can have, and he is being rewarded for his outstanding week by being named both the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player-of the-Week for games played March 16-22.

Cory HilgenkampHilgenkamp (Lincoln, Neb.) put up amazing numbers in the eight games played during the week as the Prairie Wolves went 7-1 on the week.  He batted .567 (17-30) with four doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI in the eight games.  Hilgenkamp had a slugging percentage of 1.100 and extended his hitting streak to nine games.  He had at least two hits in all but one game, and had an RBI in seven of the eight games played.

Not only did Hilgenkamp dominate at the plate, he also had a good week on the mound.  He made three appearances going 2-0 while recording a save.  He threw a pair of complete game victories while striking out 15 on the week.

In a doubleheader against Briar Cliff, Hilgenkamp was 5-8 at the plate with three HRs and five RBI.  He threw a complete game in the second game striking out 12 batters in the victory.

Hilgenkamp, a graduate of Lincoln Southwest H.S., is currently second in the GPAC in batting average hitting .460 on the season.  He is also second in the league in ERA at 2.88.

Nebraska Wesleyan is 11-3 on the season and 3-1 in the GPAC.  The Prairie Wolves travel to South Dakota this weekend for a pair of GPAC doubleheaders.  NWU will take on Mount Marty College on Saturday (Mar. 28) in Yankton, then battle the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls.
