Nebraska Wesleyan junior pitcher Zane Cascini has been named this week's Hauff Mid-America Sports Baseball/GPAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for the week of Mar. 30-Apr. 5.
Cascini (Lincoln, Neb.) pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout to get the victory over Hastings College on Friday (Apr. 3) in a battle between the two teams who were tied for first place at the time. He gave up only four hits and struck out nine in the 1-0 victory, while not allowing a Hastings runner to get past third base.
The Lincoln East H.S. product has now extended his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 16 innings dating back to his past three starts. He has thrown back-to-back complete game shutouts to improve his record to 4-1.
Cascini, who was the 2008 GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Year, moved into a tie for 8th on the NWU All-Time charts for career victories with 16. He is now just one strikeout from moving in the top 10 for career strikeouts as he has 123 career K's in the past three seasons.
Nebraska Wesleyan is currently 17-5 overall and 9-3 in the GPAC to sit atop the league standings. The Prairie Wolves host Simpson College today (Apr. 7) in a nonconference doubleheader starting at 1 pm at NWU Field in Lincoln, Neb.
