AD3I Names Hilgenkamp March Athlete of Month

Cory Hilgenkamp, a junior third baseman/pitcher for the Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball team, was named as the recipient of the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Student-Athletes of the Month award for March 2009.

Cory HilgenkampHilgenkamp (Lincoln, Neb.) was NWU's top pitcher and led the team in hits for the month of March to lead the Prairie Wolves to a 14-4 record in March. On the mound, Hilgenkamp was 4-0 with a 3.09 ERA, while also recording two saves. He recorded 24 strikeouts and four complete games, including a 12-strikeout performance in one victory.

The Lincoln Southwest H.S., product batted .413 and led the team with 26 hits in March. He also had nine doubles, four home runs and drove in 16 RBI. He had five straight games with at least two hits in a game, and had a 10-game hitting streak during the month. He was named the AD3I Player of the Week for the week ending March 22.

Alyson Chiaramonte from St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) was the female Student Athlete of the Month.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2008-09.
