Stephenson Named Academic All-District

Nebraska Wesleyan University senior second baseman Tyler Stephenson was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team that was announced on Thursday (May 7).  He was voted to the District 7 Second-Team in the college division.

Tyler StephensonStephenson, a Lincoln, Neb., native, has a 3.37 GPA as a Health & Physical Education major.  Stephenson has been one of the top offensive players for NWU after taking over the starting second base duties midway through the season.  He is currently batting .390 with a home run and 16 RBI.  During GPAC play, Stephenson batted .477, and hit in 18 of the 19 final regular season games.

The Lincoln Northeast H.S. product has been a four-year letterwinner for the NWU baseball program and helped NWU win the 2009 GPAC Regular Season Title and earn a trip to the NAIA National Tournament which begins May 12.

Stephenson is the only GPAC player to be named Academic All-District on the first or second team in the college division of District 7.

Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport.

The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District VII is comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA institutions from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
