Six different Nebraska Wesleyan baseball players were named to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent Team that was recently announced. Cory Hilgenkamp and Max Hubka were on the First-Team, Zane Cascini, Josh Ostrom and Tyler Stephenson were named to the Second-Team and Corey Petersen was placed on the Third-Team. In addition, Josh Ostrom was named the Co-Rookie of the Year. 
Hilgenkamp (Jr., Lincoln, Neb.) was named to the First-Team as a designated hitter and to the Second-Team as a pitcher. He led the team with a .372 average and 51 hits and was 7-3 on the mound with three saves.
Hubka (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) was the First-Team catcher after batting .364 with three home runs and 33 RBI. He was second on the team with 47 hits.
Cascini (Jr., Lincoln, Neb.) was named to the AD3I Second-Team to earn his third straight AD3I Honors. Cascini was NWU’s No. 1 pitcher all season and finished 6-3. He was First-Team All-Independent in 2008 and Second-Team in 2007.
Ostrom (Fr., Fremont, Neb.) was named to the All-Independent Second-Team as a pitcher after finishing with a perfect 6-0 record and a team leading 2.91 ERA. He was named the AD3I Co-Rookie of the Year along with Jon Mendez a catcher from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn. Ostrom also was the starting shortstop batting .310 with a team-high 36 RBI.
Stephenson (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) also was named to the Second-Team. He finished the year with a .369 batting average and 31 hits after taking over mid-way through the season.
Petersen (Sr., Omaha, Neb.) earned his third straight All-Independent honor as he was Third-Team this season. Petersen ended the season with a .351 batting average and five home runs.
The Association of Division III Independents consists of 17 DIII institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports.
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the season with a 28-13 record to set a new school record for victories. The Prairie Wolves won the 2009 GPAC Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.
