Four Baseball Players Named to All-Independent Team

Four different Nebraska Wesleyan baseball players were named to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent Team that was recently announced. Brady Beckman was on the First-Team, while Zane Cascini, Josh Ostrom and Andy McGowan were named to the Second-Team.

Beckman (Sr., Fremont, Neb.) was named to the First-Team into the role of the designated hitter.  He was second on the team in batting with a .356 average with a home run and 16 RBI.  He also had a team-high two triples.

Cascini (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) was named to the AD3I Second-Team to earn his fourth straight AD3I honors.  Cascini was NWU’s No. 1 pitcher for the third straight season finishing the year 4-4 with a 4.15 ERA.  He was also Second-Team AD3I in 2009 and 2007.

Ostrom (So., Fremont, Neb.) was named to the All-Independent Second-Team at shortstop.  Last season he was named the AD3I Co-Rookie of the Year.  Ostrom batted .337 with two home runs and 14 RBI, with an outstanding .933 fielding percentage at shortstop.

McGowan (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.) was the AD3I Second-Team third baseman.  He led the team in batting with a .360 batting average with three home runs and 22 RBI.  McGowan was the AD3I Rookie of the Year in 2007.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 14 DIII institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in seven sports.

Nebraska Wesleyan finished the season with a 13-18 overall record.
