Class of 2012 Joins Ranks of NWU Alumni

Graduates took their final walk across campus.Nebraska Wesleyan University held its 123rd annual commencement outside on Taylor Commons on May 12.

Dr. Harold M. Maurer, chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, received an Honorary Doctor of Science. Maurer has served as UNMC’s chancellor since 1998; his medical background is in pediatric oncology. In addition to receiving an honorary degree, Maurer also delivered the commencement address.

Angie L. Muhleisen, president and CEO of Union Bank and Trust Company, received an Honorary Doctor of Laws. When Muhleisen’s father, Jay Dunlap (’52), bought Union Bank in 1965, its assets measured $10 million. Today, the bank and trust division combined have more than $10 billion in assets under management. While Muhleisen actually transferred from NWU to complete her bachelor’s degree at Avila University in 1981, she considers Nebraska Wesleyan University her alma mater.

In a class by itself

The class of 2012 did a lot to distinguish itself at Nebraska Wesleyan. For one, graduating seniors participated in their class gift at a commendably high rate. Their 36 percent participation rate is the highest since 1996.
