What do you give math students who’ve just run more than three miles in tribute to the ratio between a circle’s circumference and diameter?
The solution is simple. You give them pie.
That’s what Nebraska Wesleyan’s Math Club did on March 10 (the Saturday before the official Pi Day of 3/14). Dozens of runners and walkers started off from Olin Hall of Science at 10 a.m. Those who completed their 3.14-mile circle around campus had their choice of perfectly round apple, strawberry, rhubarb, cherry or pumpkin pies waiting for them at the finish.
Assistant Professor of Mathematics Rebecca Swanson coordinated the event that Associate Professor of Mathematics Melissa Erdmann aptly called “irrational fun.”
