NWU Adds Rings to Its Campus Tree Tradition

For the third straight year, the Arbor Day Foundation has named Nebraska Wesleyan University a Tree Campus USA university. This national program honors colleges and universities for managing tree projects on campus, fostering urban forests and facilitating forestry learning through service.

Nebraska Wesleyan with its renowned Abel Arboretum is one of the program’s 16 inaugural member institutions. Today, there are 114 Tree Campus USA institutions. These schools meet the Arbor Day Foundation’s five standards in:

  • holding a campus tree advisory committee;
  • maintaining a campus tree care plan;
  • dedicating annual expenditures to a campus tree program;
  • observing Arbor Day; and
  • facilitating related service learning projects.

The Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA program is supported through a grant from Toyota.
