Family history shapes Johnson’s future
Lacey Johnson (’09) began studying German in middle school as a way of understanding her family heritage. She didn’t know it would shape her future.
“I wanted to… reconnect with my family’s past in the Rhineland in Germany,” Johnson said. “What I realized later on was that the language brought more than just a sense of the past. It also mirrored a new generation in Germany that many in the Midwest are unfamiliar with.”
The Fulbright Scholarship will take Johnson to Germany where she will help German students learn English. Like her fellow Fulbright winner, Alicia Dallman, Johnson is a triple major. She graduated in May with majors in English, German and secondary education.
