The curriculum for all majors is designed to balance theory and practice. Students learn how changes in the global society affect life and define options. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in internships, practicums, or volunteer work in the community. Semester and summer internships at the Urban Life Center in Chicago are available to enhance academic focus in a diverse urban environment.

Students are strongly encouraged to prepare scholarly papers for presentation at professional conferences such as the Nebraska Undergraduate Sociology Symposium and the Midwest Sociological Society.
