Facilities
Located in the Olin Hall of Science, the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science offers easy access to the University’s
advanced hardware and software: powerful SUN mail, web, and
file servers; PC and Macintosh computer labs with the latest
operating systems; and laser printers. The departmental computer
lab, equipped with RISC-based machines with Macintosh and
Linux operating systems, provides a visual and experimental
component to mathematics courses as well as a UNIX-based software
engineering environment for computer science courses.

Math & Computer Science Department students gain
valuable practical experience through paid or unpaid internships
with local businesses and research facilities, including:

Extracurricular Activities
The Mathematics/Computer Science
Club meets regularly to enjoy guest speakers, food and community.
Students can also pursue membership in the local chapter of
Kappa Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honorary. Competitions and
Other Opportunities Annually, students compete in national
mathematics and computer science competitions, including the
Putnam Exam, the Mathematical Contest in Modeling, and the
Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate
Programming Contest. Department students also serve as tutors
for lower-level courses, which is an opportunity for them
to develop their own skills and get paid while helping their
peers. Additionally, students can work for the Student Technology
Assistance Resource Team (START), which provides computer
support to the Wesleyan community. |
