Technology
Students work in a state-of-the-art
multimedia lab and demonstrate their technological proficiency
in classes, practicums and student teaching. Education majors
also have access to a software library to develop projects
such as websites and digital portfolios.
Extracurricular Activities
The Student Education
Association brings together education majors for social opportunities
and professional discussions. The campus has a local chapter
of the national teaching honorary, Kappa Delta Pi. Education
majors are also involved in numerous other organizations,
from athletic teams and performing arts groups to Student
Affairs Senate and departmental clubs.
Practicums and Non-Traditional Student
Teaching
Students can participate in practicums
for all teaching areas. Through a partnership with Huntington
Elementary School, education majors are matched with elementary
students as pen pals and reading partners.
Education majors can complete part of
their student teaching assignments in Australia, Germany,
Great Britain, India, Ireland, Kenya, or New Zealand. Urban
inner-city experiences are also available through the Urban
Life Center in Chicago.
Post-Graduate Support
Faculty support doesn't end when a student graduates. The faculty assist graduates
in developing their first semester curriculum. Through the
Induction Program for First Year Teachers, graduates can return
to campus twice during their first year of teaching to discuss
relevant issues.
