Cooper Foundation Center for Academic Resources

The Cooper Center supports a dual mission in which it provides a place for:
-
students, at all stages of their academic careers, to seek assistance with their studies.
-
faculty members to nurture academic excellence through programs, workshops, and resources that address theoretical and pedagogical issues connected with teaching and learning.
Housed on the third floor of the library (room 317), the Center
features reference materials for different disciplines, computers
linked to the Internet, video equipment for oral presentation
rehearsals, and a staff of faculty and student consultants
eager to assist their “clients” with writing and
speaking projects, as well as matters related to study skills.
The
writing workshop is the process and arena through which consultants
provide tutorial services in the Cooper Center. Similarly,
the speaking workshop provides students with the opportunity
to videotape a rehearsal presentation in private and then
critique their performance with a trained (consultant) professional. The study skills workshop provides tips for developing strategies in response to issues like test anxiety, time management, or reading techniques, as well as many other issues related to academics in college. The faculty workshop supports faculty members both with a theory and pedagogy library and through workshops on writing and speaking across the curriculum, critical thinking, and teaching excellence.
