Spring Awakening Does Justice

When going to the show tonight, I knew that this would be a tough show to perform to perfection. The music is incredibly difficult and not usual for most musical theatre vocals.

With that said, Wesleyan U did this show justice. "Moritz" was reason enough to spend the $10 or so in ticket price. His voice was excellent and acting was superb. I honestly could see him in the touring cast of this show, that is how great his performance was.

Wendla also did a superb job with vocals. Her take on the character was noticably younger than that of the other actors which was not necessarily the fault of the actor but the director. Otherwise, her vocals were spot on which is quite impressive following the diva that is Lea Michele.

The main problem was sound. The band was never loud enough. The softness made it hard to fully consume the performances emotionally and intelligently. It was a shame too, because the music is brilliant in this show!

Overall, this was a good job by that of the cast and crew of Wesleyan U. Spring Awakening alums would be glad at the fact this cast kept to the standards that is what made Spring Awakening the Tony Award winning Best Musical.
