2013 Wesleyan Honors Festival
High school students involved in choir, orchestra or band are invited to audition for the Wesleyan Honors Festival, to be held on the Nebraska Wesleyan campus February 14, 15 and 16, 2013.
Selected students earn the opportunity to work alongside seasoned guest artists.
- Band guest artist: Dennis M. Layendecker; D.M.A.; Col. USAF (Ret.), is the Director of the George Mason University School of Music. He holds the Heritage Chair in Music and serves as Director of University Orchestras in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), positions he has held since joining the faculty in August 2009.
- Choral guest artist: Dr. Sharkova, Artistic Director of the Symphony Silicon Valley Chorale, joined the Music Department at San Jose State University in the fall of 1998, where she served as assistant professor of music and Director of Choral Activities until June 2006. There, along with leading the Chorale, she directed two of the University choral ensembles - the University Women's Chorus and the Concert Choir - and taught classes in voice, ear-training, choral methods, and choral conducting. Three years ago she was named Artistic Director of the Cantabile Youth Choruses, a program of the Cantabile Choral Guild. In addition to her Silicon Valley positions, Dr. Sharkova is currently appearing as guest conductor with choruses throughout the United States. Choral Music Education. In 2009 Mr. Fredstrom conductor of the Illinois Music Educators All-State Chorus.
