Pre-licensure BSN Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Nursing Tenure-Track Position
Nebraska Wesleyan University Nursing Program in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed, doctoral degree-prepared nurse to fill an Assistant Professor of Nursing tenure-track full-time nursing faculty position for the pre-licensure four-year nursing program. A master’s degree in Nursing will be considered. This is a 12-month faculty position to begin August 2014. The nursing program is currently an ACEN (formerly NLNAC) accredited baccalaureate program that is recognized both regionally and nationally for its excellent nursing faculty and high quality graduates.
Duties include pre-licensure curriculum development, development and coordination of clinical sites, program assessment, assisting with skills lab development, classroom and clinical instruction, student advising, professional activities, and committee membership. Some travel required.
Create, manage and participate in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college, and collective and individual interest of its staff and student body. Support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the Philosophy, Mission, Values and Vision adopted by the Board of Governors.
JOB DUTIES, TASKS, and RESPONSIBILITIES
- TEACHING: Plans, develops and presents organized learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines in topics relating to the required and approved curriculum of the department and other related topics meeting department goals. Part of the assignment may include software applications.
- CURRICULUM: Prepares curriculum materials, including course outlines, for approval, syllabi and other instructional materials. Contributes, as appropriate, to program improvement and development.
- COMMUNICATION: Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility. Provides out-of-class communication opportunities with students. Participates in department, division, and college meetings as appropriate. Participates in the work of the program advisory committees. Represents the college to external constituencies as appropriate. Seeks always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff.
- STUDENT ADVISING, RETENTION AND ASSESSMENT: Assumes academic advising responsibilities for students within the faculty member's field of expertise. Incumbent is familiar with college assessment and placement procedures and aware of campus resources. Participates in department processes designed to recruit, advise and retain students.
- LEADERSHIP: Provides leadership in the learning environment and in matters pertaining to curricular expertise.
- PLANNING: Participates in all aspects of program department planning and in the establishment of department goals and objectives.
- BUDGET: Participates in department budget-building process. Recommends expenditures to department chair.
- PERSONNEL: Participates in the selection of department faculty and staff. May be assigned supervisory responsibility for student employees.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Maintain competency and currency in the subject matter of courses taught and in teaching skills.
- FACILITY: Assumes responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment
Doctorally prepared nurse (MSN considered). Prefer three-five years’ experience teaching and/or administration in a Pre-licensure Registered Nurse program. Preference given to applicants with Medical-Surgical experience but will consider experience in Maternal-Child or Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing. The position requires knowledge and experience with the Nebraska State Board of Nursing regulations as well as nursing accreditation processes.
Must have excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, oral and written skills.
Must have a thoroughgoing understanding of academic discipline of terminal degree and teaching assignment.
Must have an appreciation for liberal arts education and a general understanding of the various academic disciplines represented in the curriculum.
Must possess sufficient knowledge of, and experience with, undergraduate pedagogy in order to teach effectively.
Must be familiar with higher education trends and academic policy standards.
Must have motivational and pedagogical abilities sufficient respond to students and others in extreme circumstances.
Must have the ability to conceptualize the overall picture and also to delineate and respond to the smaller components.
Must welcome collegial discussion and decision-making as circumstances require.
Must be able to operate a computer and other technology equipment used in classroom instruction.
