Honorary Doctor of Laws

Angie L. Muhleisen

Angie L. Muhleisen
President, Union Bank and Trust Company

Angie Muhleisen graduated Cum Laude from Avila University in 1981 with a degree in business administration. Although a graduate of Avila, Muhleisen considers Nebraska Wesleyan University her alma mater as she obtained the majority of her college credits here.

She has spent her entire career in banking and currently serves as president and CEO of Union Bank and Trust Company. In 1965, Union Bank was purchased by the Dunlap family and was $10 million in size. Today, the bank and trust division combined have more than $10 billion in assets under management. Union Bank is the largest locally owned bank headquartered in Lincoln.

Muhleisen’s father, Jay Dunlap (’52), had a unique corporate philosophy. He believed that caring about each other, the customer and the community was a recipe for success. Muhleisen is proud that employees live this philosophy of kindness. Recently, Union Bank was awarded Best Bank, Best Customer Service and Best Workplace in Lincoln’s Choice awards.

Giving back to the community is very important to Muhleisen and the associates at Union Bank. In addition to the Nebraska Wesleyan Board of Governors and Board of Trustees, some of the boards she has served on include: Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital-Past Chair; Assurity Inc.; BryanLGH Enterprises; Lincoln Chamber of Commerce-Executive Committee; Lincoln Community Foundation-Executive Committee; UNMC Board of Counselors; and the UNL College of Business Advisory Board.

She is married to Dan Muhleisen, a civil engineer. They have two children, Alicia and Jason. Alicia is pursuing a doctor of medicine at UNMC and Jason will attend law school in the fall of 2012.
