Parents > Academics

At Nebraska Wesleyan, academics are our first priority. We are committed to graduating the finest students in the region—and this commitment shows in everything we do. Below are some highlights of NWU's academic programs.

Number One Liberal Arts College in Nebraska
Nebraska Wesleyan is the number one liberal arts college in Nebraska, according to U.S. News and World Report. Nebraska Wesleyan earned this ranking due to several positive factors, including the number of classes with 20 or fewer students; the number of entering students who graduated in the top 10% of their high school class; and the number of full-time faculty providing individualized attention to students.

Every Course Is Honors-Quality
Unlike large state institutions that offer few honors courses per semester (and only to select students), Nebraska Wesleyan provides every student with an honors-quality education—every day. Our student-to-faculty ratio is 14:1. Almost all of our classes are under 20 students.

Outstanding Academic Instruction
Our faculty is made of nationally-known researchers and scholars. We remain equally committed to teaching in an intimate environment that prizes one-on-one contact with students. Faculty members involve students in activities that take them beyond traditional modes of learning.

The Best and the Brightest
Nebraska Wesleyan students are among the best students in Nebraska—and the country. Students at Nebraska Wesleyan perform well both in and out of the classroom, translating knowledge gained from their coursework into theatre and music productions, artistic creations, scientific experiments, and business ventures. Two-thirds of Wesleyan students go on to apply this knowledge in graduate or professional school within five years of graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan.

Unique Capstone Experiences
Interning with United States senators and representatives; studying at biological field stations in Australia and the Netherlands; investigating human sleep patterns in our on-site sleep lab; publishing web designs in an international journal—all of these opportunities represent Wesleyan’s “capstone experiences”—learning and sharing knowledge through a variety of exceptional experiences. Such approaches to learning are part of the curriculum, educational philosophy, and intellectual mission of the University.

Extraordinary Commitment to Technology
A 6:1 student-to-computer ratio, 100% room connectivity, state-of-the-art music recording devices, a $100,000 laser spectroscopy facility, first-rate lighting in the University theater, and innovative technology to support majors such as psychology and modern language, all distinguish Wesleyan as both technologically current and sophisticated.

Global Education
Wesleyan takes pride in the global learning opportunities available to its students. Students can participate in once-in-a-lifetime internships and study abroad opportunities. On campus, organizations such as the International Relations Organization (IRO) sponsor weekly luncheons, discussion groups, and other community events that allow for interaction among international students and U.S. students.
